Our group is using and developing methods of statistical physics to address exciting problems in biology and medicine. We are a part of the newly established, interdisciplinary “Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin” in Erlangen.
In July 2025 we went to a two-day retreat in the Franconian Switzerland in Trabelsdof near Bamberg. There, we had a great start with an insightful talk and lively discussion about Reinforcement Failing in adaptive tumor therapy presented by Jona Kayser.
To advance the research within our g...

As part of the Collaborative Research Centre 1540 “Exploring Brain Mechanics”, we have a position at the chair to offer. For more details see here.
We are currently looking for the new group member to work on a PhD project devoted to Biofilms!
PhD position: How Biofilms heal their wounds?
Biofilms are commonly known as complex bacterial communities that encase themselves in self-produced polymeric matrix substances and excel in w...
Reading about donuts, croissants and jalebis makes you hungry? And you wonder how this is related to our research? Our latest publication in collaboration with the Hilbert and Nienhaus lab (both KIT) revealed that clusters of recruited RNA polymerase II form in line with surface condensa...
